Special Board of Supervisors Meeting
A Special Meeting of the Board of Supervisors for the Town of Maine was held at 5:45 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008 in the Town Hall, 6111 North 44th Avenue, Wausau, WI 54401.
Present were Chairperson Betty Hoenisch, Supervisors Sue Shore and Tad Schult, Clerk Tammi Walter, Treasurer Marilyn Grunenwald, Town road workers Scott Cyzan and John Marquardt and road contractors.
Chairperson Hoenisch called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the first item of business was discussion and possible action to approve screen granite bid. The bids were:
1. Ladick Road Materials bid $5.84 per ton delivered north of Hillcrest Dr. $5.45 per ton delivered south of Hillcrest Dr. $5.33 per ton delivered to town garage stockpile.
2. Meverden Materials bid $6.07 per ton delivered north of Hillcrest Dr. $5.64 per ton delivered south of Hillcrest Dr. $5.64 per ton delivered to town garage stockpile.
Supervisor Schult made a motion to accept Ladick Road Materials bid, seconded by Supervisor Shore. Motion carried.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the crushed road base bid. The bids were:
1. Anderson Brothers and Johnson bid $6.65 per ton
Supervisor Shore made a motion to accept Anderson Brothers and Johnson’s bid, seconded by Supervisor Schult. Motion carried.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the shouldering bid. The bids were:
1. American Asphalt bid $11.28 per ton
2. Anderson Brothers and Johnson bid $11.45 per ton
3. Ron Christiansen Trucking bid $11.15 per ton
Supervisor Schult made a motion to accept Ron Christiansen Trucking’s bid, seconded by Supervisor Shore. Motion carried.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the pulverizing bid. The bids were:
1. RC Pavers - $2890.00 for North 28th Avenue
- $1700.00 for Empire Drive
- $2890.00 for North 29th Avenue
- $2375.00 for Dixie Drive
2. American Asphalt - $6127.02 for North 60th Avenue – Decator Drive to Falcon Drive
- $6733.64 for North 60th Avenue – Hillcrest Drive to County Road A
- $5944.35 for Hillcrest – North 60th Avenue to North 72nd Avenue
- $1516.53 for North 28th Avenue – Emery Drive to Empire Lane
- $545.72 for Empire Lane – North 28th Avenue to North 29th Avenue
- $1516.53 for North 29th Avenue – Emery Drive to Empire Lane
- $1091.44 for Dixie Drive – Emery Drive to terminal
Supervisor Schult made a motion to accept American Asphalt’s bid with a timeline clause for October 15, 2008 the earliest in a contract, seconded by Supervisor Shore. Motion carried.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the paving bid. The bids were:
Paving ( 2.5” ):
1. Lincoln County Highway Department - $49.56 per ton/$373,253.00 total price for Rainbow Drive and Brandenburg Avenue
2. RC Pavers - $42.85 per ton/$234,646.60 total price for Rainbow Drive
- $42.85 per ton/$86,042.80 total price for Brandenburg Avenue
- $42.85 per ton/$4,713.50 total price for Playground Lane
- $42.85 per ton/$28,452.40 total price for Shoreline Place
- $43.73 per ton/$20,115.80 total price for North 28th Avenue
- $43.73 per ton/$7,259.18 total price for Empire Drive
- $43.73 per ton/$20,115.80 total price for North 29th Avenue
- $43.73 per ton/$14,518.36 total price for Dixie Drive
3. American Asphalt - $237,232.34 total price for Rainbow Drive
- $86,250.84 total price for Brandenburg Avenue
- $6,592.15 total price for Playground Lane

- $6,847.33 total price for Empire Drive

- $13,694.66 total price for Dixie Drive
Paving ( 3.0” ):
1. Lincoln County Highway Department - $49.53 per ton/$447,690.00 total price for Rainbow Drive and Brandenburg Avenue
2. RC Pavers - $42.85 per ton/$268,755.20 total price for Rainbow Drive
- $42.85 per ton/$102,325.80 total price for Brandenburg Avenue
3. American Asphalt - $285,503.89 total price for Rainbow Drive
- $105,601.99 total price for Brandenburg Avenue
Discussion followed between American Asphalt, RC Pavers and the Board. This item was tabled.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the driveway approaches bid. The bids were:
1. RC Pavers - $3,900.00 total price for 26 driveways on Brandenburg, Rainbow, Playground and Shoreline
$1,350.00 total price for 9 driveways on N 28th, N 29th, Dixie and Empire
2. American Asphalt - $21.43 per square yard for 26 driveways on Brandenburg, Rainbow, Playground and Shoreline
$21.43 per square yard for 9 driveways on N 28th, N 29th, Dixie and Empire
3. Blackline Asphalt - $29,400.00 total price for all driveways
This item was tabled.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the chip seal bid. The bids were:
1. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers - $13,958.00 price per mile
2. Scott Construction - $12,776.94 price per mile
Supervisor Schult made a motion to accept Scott Construction’s bid, seconded by Supervisor Shore. Motion carried.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the double chip seal bid. The bids were:
1. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers - $26,659.00 price per mile
2. Scott Construction - $22,972.68 price per mile
Supervisor Schult made a motion to accept Scott Construction’s bid, seconded by Supervisor Shore. Motion carried.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the slag seal bid. The bids were:
1. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers - $12,996.00 price per mile
2. Scott Construction - $13,887.00 price per mile
Supervisor Schult made a motion to accept Fahrner Asphalt Sealers bid, seconded by Supervisor Shore. Motion carried.
Chairperson Hoenisch explained that the next item of business was discussion and possible action to approve the crack sealing bid. The bids were:
1. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers - $1.341 per pound
2. TAZ Crackfilling - $1.06 per pound
Supervisor Schult made a motion to accept Fahrner Asphalt Sealers bid, seconded by Supervisor Shore. Motion carried.
Chairperson Betty Hoenisch, Supervisors Sue Shore and Tad Schult, Town road workers Scott Cyzan and John Marquardt went and toured roads.
Motion by Supervisor Shore to adjourn at 9:55 p.m., seconded by Supervisor Schult. Motion carried.
